The cedar shingles brands adorning the walls of the Mint are the work of L.L. “Mac” McVean.  According to Mint Bar legend, Mac hired a colorful character named Tuffy to help him create these brands in return for a steady supply of liquor. The two took a soldering iron, an electric needle, and a brand book one day and started to work – when the soldering iron began to wander, Tuffy called it a day!  As a result, the walls of the Mint are an encyclopedia of over 9,000 slabs of local brands.
