McVean and Elkins continued their lease on the Mint until McVean’s death in September of 1972. Elkins continued to run the bar until his retirement around 1983. From 1977 on, the lease was held by the Mint, Inc., a firm owned by Harold Riley, who decided to leave the Mint as it was. Riley hired Fred Hough as manager until 1985 when he hired Charlene “Charlie” Bergstrom, the Mint’s very first lady manager.
